MISSION

To speak the language of IU students, to change the meaning of campus journalism, and to make you think, laugh, and think again.

As well as produce content that sets the bar for our generation, to be thought leaders and creative trendsetters on campus, to modernize and revolutionize campus news, to rival all other student publications and to truly capture a native student voice.

We have four different sections:

  • The More You Know, which is to report on happenings around the globe and localize it for our readers.
  • B-Town Buzz, which reports on events and news that pertains to Bloomington and it’s surrounding areas.
  • Hoosier Hub, which is news about campus and Indiana University.
  • Guilty Pleasures, which is the fun entertainment articles that relate to Indiana University students

Our generation is described as lazy, civically disengaged, irrationally optimistic, and apathetic.
Let’s change that.

ABOUT THE

The Rival was created in 2014 as a response to filtered and outdated traditional campus publications. In just a year The Rival grew to a staff of 50 students, received nearly half a million page views, and placed fourth in the largest collegiate business plan competition in the country. Now, The Rival is revolutionizing student news and entertainment by connecting colleges and student voices across schools like never before. Formerly DC-based, the Rival’s multi-campus expansion now allows students all over the country to speak freely about their student experiences and college culture, explore creative styles, and share ideas in a whole new way.
